What is an IP Address ??

 

IP address is an important feature of any device, which is basically used to communicate between any devices. For example, the IP address is like a contact address. Like you people send letters to anyone. So, to send the letter an address is required. In the same computer has an IP address. With help of IP, they are able to exchange information on the internet.

IP Address full form is Internet Protocol address. This is an identifying number of a small piece of network hardware. In this, there is an IP based network i.e. an IP address present in the internet, that allows the device to communicate with another device. The IP address is commonly known as 'IP' in short form.

IP address commonly assigned in computer, printer, switch, smartphone, tablet, router. In this, unique address of all devices is given through which any device in local network or internet can be identified very easily.

It is a network address for a computer's, smartphone's etc. which is able to send email or data to the internet. Like, your friend reaches you through your home address. Just like you get data in the device through internet address.

IP address is basically divided into different classes based on their uses:

1. Class A: - The range of this IP ranges from 1.0.01 to 120.134.254.255. It is a vast network. Which is connected to more devices.
2. Class B: - The range of this IP is from 128.1.0.1 to 191.255.255.254. There are medium size networks in it.
3. Class C: - The range of this IP is from 193.0.1.1 to 223.255.254.254. It includes less than 256 devices and is a small network.
4. Class D: - The range of this IP ranges from 229.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.
5. Class E: - The range of this IP ranges from 240.0.0.1 to 254.255.255.254. This is a technology to be used in future.

Of all the total IP addresses, some are reserved for Public IP and some are reserved for Private IP address. The IP addresses that IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) has reserved for private IP’s are: -

• 10. 0. 0. 0   to   10. 255. 255. 255
• 11. 172. 16. 0. 0   to   172. 31. 255. 255
• 12. 192. 168. 0. 0   to   192. 168. 255. 255

All IP addresses except these range of IP addresses can be used for Public IP’s.

Format of IP Address:

Actually IP Address is made up of total 32 Bit, Binary Digit (100110101010100.100110101) which makes difficult for anyone to remember total bits in binary format, so it is divided into total 4 parts and all 4 separated by decimals & there can be any number between 0 to 255 in each part.                                      For example - 192.186.112.39 .
Due to being 32 Bit, it has become limited, only total 4294967296 IP addresses can come in it, which are on the verge of ending. Therefore, due to this, the need for a new IP Address System (IPv6) has been developed which is 128 Bit, in which Unlimited IP Address can be created. And there is something that looks like- 2102:db4:0:1134:0:367:1:2.

Types of IP Address:

1. Private IP Addresses

2. Public IP Addresses

3. Static IP Addresses

4. Dynamic IP Addresses

Each IP Address also has two types that is IPv4 address & IPv6 address.

How to find your IP Address?

If you do not know how to find your IP address, then I have given two ways for you below, and also for Android Smartphone’s. You can follow either of the two to get your IP address.

The first way is for PC, first of all, click on the start menu of your computer, and choose Run or press windows + R shortcut button. Now a Dialog Box will open in front of you, write CMD in the box to open Command Prompt, and click on the Ok button. Now a box will open in front of you, write ipconfig in that box, and now you will have your IP address in front of you.

The other way is, if you have an internet connection, open Google Search or any Browser and type What is My IP Address, and do a search, and your own IP address will appear in front of you. These processes are the easiest for you or us.

In Androids Mobile Phone, if you want to know the IP address of your mobile phone, then open your phone's settings, go to About Phone and click on the status, here your IP address of Smartphone will be given.
