You must have heard the name of the server at some point and you must have wondered what this server is and people say that if any web page or website is not able to open quickly, then people say that the server went down. Today I am going to tell you what is a server and how does it work, we are going to tell you about this today.

What is a Server?

A Server means a computer or device that provides service to you, which you can't able to get any information without the server. As we all know that internet is connected to each other through the computer, that means a wire has been laid everywhere, there is a computer in your house, that wire is connected to that wire, taking the same wire next to your house, doing this in the whole world. All the computers have been connected to each other that is, all the people were connected to each other through that wire.

In the example of Server, let’s talk about Google's Server. Whenever a user requests by writing some query in Google, then this query goes to Google's server and Google's server sends the response of that query to the user or client. so, this is how Server works. That is, the server gives a response by accessing the client's query. Now we will know about What can cause a server to go down?

Why is a server needed?

We can also call the server a Data storage device in simple language. Because all our data in the server, whether it is related to file, related to application, related to security, or related to DNS etc. everything stored in the server by default. For this reason we can say that-To store any type of data, we need a server.

What can cause a server to go down?

Whenever we visit a website, you must have seen that that site does not open quickly and sometimes it does not open, then we can say that the server is down, so the question is how does it happen?

The answer is, whatever website we are visiting, the request went to the server of that computer and suppose that hardware is less in that computer, in which we have to run heavy software like video editing, to do some heavy work in our local computer, then we will have to increase our RAM as well as processor will have to be increased, only then we will be able to run that software.

There are few such servers which are kept on software such as Apache Server or FTP server, which provides web service, similarly there is a server of any website that we are visiting, the name of a website is brought to us by the server itself. Assume that the RAM or processor of that server is very low and most importantly, if too many people visit that website at the same time, then the server goes down.

What are the types of servers?

There are following types of servers and they are providing services in different ways, whose names are like :-

Web & Email Server File Server
Application Server
Audio / Video Server
Chat Server
FTP Server
Fax Server
IRC Server
List Server
News Server
Mail Server
Proxy Server
Telnet Server

Important Points to note about a Server:

  • Servers are running 24×7. If for some reason the hardware becomes useless, then there are many more options for back-up. Because of which the server is always running. Normally, if we see that the PC we use and if the light goes out while using PC, then all our back-up also goes. But this does not happen with the server. Even if the light goes out, due to the many options like inverter etc., the servers are always running.
  • The hard drive used in the RAID configuration is used to store the data in the server. Due to which the server has higher storage capacity.
  • Whenever we create a website. Then all the data file of our website is stored in the server and this server does not give any other person the right to access it. For this reason the server also provides us High class network security.

I hope after reading this blog, you have come to know each and everything related to a Server.
