1.MORRIS WORM :

So, basically this virus story is like this

• Robert Morris junior is the name of person who invented this virus.

• In 1988, he was a graduate student in computer science at Cornell University when he wrote a program called as worm (which is a virus).
• The worm virus was 99 lines of code and most shocking ability it had, to self-replicate and    propagate.
• On November 2^nd 1988 Robert Morris loaded his program onto the internet using a computer at MIT college of united states.
• However, Morris made a mistake in his coding and the worm spread quickly since, the internet wasn’t as widespread then as it is now.

• The Morris worm managed to infect 10% of all computers on the internet which was about 6,000 total which is a big number.
• The computer ran a bunch of invisible tasks and this caused computers around U.S to crash.
• When Robert Morris realized what was actually happening then he contacted friends of his at Harvard and they came up with a solution.
• They tried to send out an anonymous message on how to fix it but was too late.
• In total it cost anywhere from 200$ to more than 50,000$ to fix an infected computer.
• After all investigation he was convicted of violating the fraud and abuse act and handed a sentence of 3 years of probation 400 hours of community service and fined 10,050.

2.CONFICKER :

• It is a computer worm that targets the Microsoft windows operating system and was first detected in November 2008.
• This virus is also known down up, down ad up, Kido.
• Most shocking thing about this virus is that it affected 15 million computers (190 Countries) making it the largest known worm Infection since Wall chuck in 2003.

• This virus targeted a flaw in the SMB network service in windows 2000, XP, vista, 2003, 2008 and windows 7 beta.
• This virus author still not identified and had continued to release new variants.

3.I LOVE YOU :

• Years, ago a Filipino named Donald E Guzman created a computer worm that became the biggest malware event ever.
• The malware were infected users of windows and Microsoft outlook and caused the Companies and governments to shut down their online services.
• This virus affected over 45 million computers connected to internet, and caused $5.5 billion damages.

• This virus is written in v b script and spreads through an email with the file attachment “love letter for you.txt.vbs”.
• The real purpose why Donald E Guzman created the worm, is because of his rejected thesis proposal to steals internet login passwords.

4.MYDOOM :

• This virus created a backdoor into operating systems allowing remote users to control the machine.
• The initial outbreak of MYDOOM occurred in February 2004 and had two stages:
• Stage 1:

         Caused the virus to begin a dos attack.

• Stage 2:

         Stopped the virus from distributing itself any further.

5.STORM WORM :

• On January 19^th 2007, computers in the U.S and Europe started getting emails with the subject line “230 dead as storm batters Europe” and then there was an attachment called “video.exe”.
• The fact is attachment wasn’t a video.
• It was a Trojan horse virus.
• After infecting the computers, it created a backdoor which the author could later use to get data and it added through computer to the botnet.
• The reasons that the virus was initially successful was because at the time when it was sent bad storms were raging in Europe.
• As for who the creators were, it’s believed the virus originated in Russia but beyond that not much is known.

6.CRYPTO LOCKER :

• This is a ransomware and what it will do is, it will encrypt your data using RSA and AES encryption.
• It will Lockdown your files on your computer and then ransom them for set amount of money.
• Now money is generally going for about $300 USD or 2 bitcoins.
• Unfortunately, it is the only way with a lot of Crypto lockers because they are using a high level of encryption- about 2048 bits which is even NSA can’t crack.
